Spring has sprung, and that usually means more time spent outdoors. However, preventing UV exposure is of year-round importance. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the US. Between the hours of 10 am and 4 pm (DST) the sun's UV rays are most hazardous.

Following are the CDC recommendations for protection from UV radiation:
• seek shade, especially during midday hours.
• wear clothing to prevent sun exposure.
• wear a wide brim hat the covers the face, head, neck and ears.
• wear sunglasses that wrap around and that block as close to 100% of UVA and UVB rays.
• wear sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15 and both UVA and UVB protection, and reapply at least every 2 hours(more often if you are sweating or swimming)
• avoid indoor tanning.

For more information, please visit www.cdc.gov. See a dermatologist yearly for routine skin checks and more frequently for new or changing moles. Please discuss any questions with your physician.
